摘要：Whenever I leave home for more than a week at a time, I bring with me a classic novel that 1 have never read. For a recent trip to southern Laos, I took Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. It is a book that has been on my book shelf at home for over twenty years, and while 1 was packing my suitcase back in the United States, I grabbed it almost as an afterthought2. Il is not one of Twain ' s best books, but was one of only a few by him that 1 hadn't already read. I would not have guessed that the events in the book would have coincided with my travels in Laos quite so well.
